GMO Studies - Are Genetically Modified Foods Safe?

19 Studies Link GMO Foods to Organ Disruption: Link

Toxicity Content in GMO Foods: Link

As expected, these studies were met with a lot of criticism. I have read the arguments for and against the validity of these studies. I just think that the U.S. is behind the rest of the modern world when it comes to labeling GMO foods. This is the first time in human history that we have added genes to our foods, so we should definitely have the right to know if this is happening.

The recent initiative in California to label GMO foods was narrowly defeated, but GMO companies such as Monsanto vastly outspent the health and regulation groups in advertising. Monsanto has also funded some studies of their own, which of course say that GMO foods are much healthier than the food humans have eaten throughout history.

I think there can be some benefits to GMO foods, such as their ability to better survive long periods of droughts. And of course, there is still much of the typical food value in GMO foods (basic calories and nutrition). But again, I think these and other studies, along with the realization that this is a new experiment for humans, should encourage people to vote for mandatory labeling of GMO foods (which is the law in Europe).
