In addition to homeopathy, a combination of L-Lysine, Zinc and Vitamin C have been reported to successfully fight the herpes virus and symptoms. "500 milligrams of lysine three times a day is needed to get the virus under control, along with a minimum of 2000 milligrams of two-staged time release vitamin C per day. Colloidal zinc or chelated zinc is also recommended for best results" (Link).
For a less appetizing route, many people have posted their personal success stories after following an ancient Chinese process called urine therapy. "It has been 5 months since I first posted that I am trying Urine Therapies for HSV II (herpes)," writes one adherent. "The results are that a chronic, always broken out condition that was resistant to drugs is healed." (Link).
Another person tried various herpes medications for several years, and claims to have had better results with just ten days of urine therapy. "Amazingly, things are clearing up. I have had some breakouts in areas that I had not had since the initial infection, but they seem to come and leave very quickly. The areas that were chronically infected are clear. I feel better than I have in that area for the past few years" (Link).
Yes, unfortunately it is what it looks like. People who practice urine therapy hold their nose and drink a small amount of their own urine every morning, usually followed by some sort of mouthwash "chaser".
"[Head of the China Urine Therapy Association], Mr Bao, says that after being convinced to give it a whirl, daily urine doses led to him being cured of constipation and canker sores. Then, he claims, after six months his previously-bald head started sprouting hair again" (Link). This Chinese tradition has even spread to people who are willing to try anything as a last resort for annoying ailments such as herpes.

One person who has been battling oral herpes (HSV1) for years writes, "I begin to read about urine therapy (UT) and have recently started it in the last few days, drinking an ounce in the morning. I must say that my initial impressions are that this is a very effective form of treatment! I have been able to feel the yeast being killed off and watch my AC cracks began to heal very rapidly after beginning the UT. Besides those benefits, I seem to have gained a great deal of energy and a general sense of well being" (Link).
Granted, this is anecdotal evidence, and most doctors would say there isn't enough evidence to prove that UT provides a cure for anything. However, for people like Mr. Bao, it was just what the doctor ordered.
