I often get hungry at night and turn to a bowl of cereal or maybe something even worse. It is adding weight to my belly. I'd like to cut this habit and lose this weight. I'd also like to do more cardio at the gym to slim down. I feel I'm strong. But I also feel I have a serious layer of fat covering up any muscle that I do have. I'd love to increase muscle and burn fat in the coming year. I feel the best way to do this is stopping eating at night.
One thing that might help me do this is herbal tea. I'm hoping that drinking herbal tea reduces my cravings for junk food.
Another option would be to do intermittent fasting in the morning. However, I love smoothies and I don't know how to make smoothies on the road. I'm really at a loss for what to do here, but am open to ideas.Peter Krusehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17365468863659785171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7922948876494498803.post-84807228951517342512023-12-23T05:19:00.000-08:002023-12-23T05:25:52.503-08:00Eggs and Diabetes<p>"In this large prospective study, we have demonstrated that daily consumption of at least one egg is associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes in both men and women, independently of traditional risk factors for type 2 diabetes." This depends on your health, your goals and your schedule. For me personally, I am often gone, out on the road. So my schedule makes intermittent fasting difficult. However, there is more than just one way to do intermittent fasting. Below are two options:</p><p style="text-align: center;"><b>____________________________________________________</b></p><p><b>- <u>First Option</u></b> (<b>"Long Method"</b>): Eat in the morning before I head out. </p><p style="text-align: center;">_______________________________________________________</p><p>Dr. Becky Gillaspy promotes 2 meals a day as one weight loss option. At 4:57 in the below video, she discusses the "Long Method" of intermittent fasting. Which basically means an early breakfast and a late dinner.</p><p><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/NTBBZcdD2OE?si=ZvOPgISTYgPSjbpW&start=93" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></p><p>Sadh Guru says that "2 meals a day" is a good option, which many Indians naturally follow. He presents one option: 8 hours between your first meal (10 AM) and your 2nd meal (7 pm).<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/DnRQJzK6yvI?si=o1fyOX5K9BzEhjb8&start=93" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></p><p><b>- 2<u>nd Option</u> </b>("<b>Short Method"</b>): Don't eat until 2pm at the earliest. </p><p><span style="font-size: large; font-style: italic;">Pack a Lunch </span><b>(salad, sandwich, smoothie, stir fry, sandwich, etc.)</b><i> </i><b>- </b>One way to achieve this method of eating is by packing a lunch. I agree with many of the beliefs found in veganism. However, I don't agree on everything. Below are some disagreements I have with some of the more militant vegan activists.<div><br /></div><div>1) "<b>I like whales." </b>The simple statement, "I like whales" is extremely anti vegan. Why? Because whales eat roughly 5,500 pounds of fish PER DAY (2,500 kg) (<a href="https://www.science.org/content/article/watch-humpback-whales-trick-thousands-fish-becoming-dinner#:~:text=The%20humpback%20whale%20has%20one,the%20fish%20come%20to%20them." target="_blank">Link</a>)! These lovable creatures are killing machines, and yet I don't judge them for it. Their natural diet is fish. <b>They are entitled to eat their natural diet, as are humans. </b></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div>2) <b>Supplements and planning can be pricey, ineffective and exhausting. </b>Yes, I know that B12 is technically the only supplement vegans need for survival. However: zinc, Omega 3 DHA, Vitamin D, Many of the B vitamins, selenium, iodine, choline, iron, protein and many others are often limited on a vegan diet. Maintaining these supplements is an essential part of most vegan diets. </div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Much of the world doesn't have access to these supplements. </b>I lived overseas for about 4.5 years (in China) and witnessed true poverty. Many people there work for about<b> a dollar an hour.</b> </div><div><div><br /></div><div>It would be absurd to ask someone in this income bracket to purchase a $30 algae supplement for their DHA omega 3's or a $60 container of pea protein. Also, trusting the quality of these supplements is a huge problem in China and other countries.</div></div><div><br /></div><div>3) <b>Because of soy, gluten and nut allergies,</b> s<b>ome people do better on their ancestral diet (which includes animal products). </b>This is where I'd prioritize health over ideology, personally. If someone is truly struggling to be healthy on an entirely vegan diet, I'm OK with them trying out non-vegan options, especially when those options are humanely raised.<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0ka9WBEijhk?si=oA7UC_GuGFl53nmo&start=182" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></div><div>Mikhaila Peterson seemed to only improve on a meat based diet. Either I can accept that I don't know everything, or I can judge her. I prefer the first option.</div><div><br /></div><div>4) <b>While all of the blue zones were mostly plant-based, none of the blue zones were fully vegan. </b>Yes, there are vegans living among the 7th Day Adventists, who did quite well in the Blue Zones studies. But the five blue zones including Ikaria Greece, Okinawa Japan, Nicoya Costa Rica, Sardinia Italy, Loma Linda California, all included a <b>small amount</b> of animal protein. It's easy to forget that veganism wouldn't even be possible without the discovery of B-12, which happened in the 20th century. DHA omega 3 from algae is another example of a modern breakthrough which allows vegans to be healthy. </div><div><br /></div><div>5) <b>Nobody is 100% vegan. </b>Yes, vegans generally do a far better job at protecting animals than those eating factory-farmed meat. Vegans also generally use less land, since much of the grains grown in the world end up feeding animals for meat.</div><div><br /></div><div>However, even vegan farms require deforesting, which destroys animal homes and habitats. Simply mowing the lawn kills rodents and insects. Rodents and other animals are killed during combine harvesting. Farms often require pesticides and insecticides that kill bees and other insects. Roadkill is possible for anyone who owns cars. </div><div><br /></div><div>6) <b>Even vegan restaurants kill rats and mice, and it's probably a "necessary evil." </b>Be honest, do you really want rat droppings on your black bean burger? Landlords generally take care of rodent issues for their tenants, including vegan restaurants. Sure, there's always the remote possibility that the rodents are caught and brought to another place. Is this likely, especially in a city setting? Absolutely not. Landlords are generally too busy to be driving rats and mice around. And dropping these rodents off in a forest is generally a death sentence anyways, according to PETA (<a href="https://www.peta.org/issues/wildlife/living-harmony-wildlife/house-mice/#:~:text=Releasing%20a%20mouse%20or%20rat,which%20they%20lack%20natural%20immunity." target="_blank">Link</a>).</div><div><br /></div><div>It's also noteworthy that mice and rats will generally do anything possible to return to their homes and families (aka our favorite vegan restaurants or even our bedrooms), even from miles away. </div><div><br /></div><div>7) <b>Some prominent vegans (including "Vegan Gains") call for "culling" or killing predatory animals.</b> This is absolutely absurd in my mind, as it would involve killing most species of fish and birds, who often eat smaller fish. insects or even smaller rodents. The only time I'd be in favor of killing an animal is to use it as food, when other better foods aren't available.</div><div><br /></div><div>8) <b>I do believe in promoting my own species over other species. </b>While fish often eat smaller fish, they will almost never eat their own species (<a href="https://hakaimagazine.com/news/fish-eat-fish-world-cannibalism-surprisingly-rare/#:~:text=While%20the%20team%20catalogued%20more,30%2C000%20fish%20species%20known%20worldwide." target="_blank">Link</a>). This "speciesism" is true throughout the animal kingdom. If I had to choose between the life of a human or an animal, I would protect a human. Some vegans make no such distinction. </div><div><br /></div><div>9) <b>Factory farming is a huge problem. </b>I'm actually in agreement with most vegan ideals and principles. I'm also 100% against the evils of factory farming. Currently, I eat a plant-based diet. That being said, I personally put health and science before any sort of ideology, rather than vice versa.</div><div><br /></div><div>10) <b>Eating a big fish saves many small fish. </b>Most fish are omnivores, and hunt insects or even other small fish. So for those who eat big fish, they are effectively saving the lives of many smaller fish.</div><div><br /></div><div>11) <b>"Judge Not"</b> (Matthew 7:1). Some vegans can be downright cruel to those who exit the lifestyle. We must understand that dogs, cats, fish, whales, dolphins, birds, humans and many other species are not historically vegan. I prefer a tolerant and understanding mindset when approaching these species (and many more) for not being vegan. I feel that constant anger is detrimental to one's health. However, this is not a justification of cruelty found in factory farms or gluttonous lifestyles. </div>Peter Krusehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17365468863659785171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7922948876494498803.post-86758277219268748412023-08-03T10:29:00.001-07:002023-08-03T10:30:13.896-07:00Delicious and high protein plant based breakfast <div>BBQ Tofu with avocado. And without careful planning, it's easy for vegans to become deficient in these 3 nutrients. Fortunately, there are vegan options available (listed below).</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">For vegetarians and omnivores, free-range egg yolks are extremely high in choline (100-200mg per egg yolk - generally higher in free range eggs). Eggs are also rich in selenium (15 mcg per egg) and have a decent amount of zinc (0.5 mcg). However, 2 eggs also have 374 mg of cholesterol, which is over the daily recommended limit of 300mg for preventing heart disease, or 200mg for those with heart disease <a href="If you have risk factors for heart disease, you should not consume more than 200 milligrams of cholesterol a day." target="_blank">LINK</a>. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Some people choose to add in just one egg per day to meet some of these needs. It's one of my favorite tasting drinks in the world. I also think it has some benefits as well. These are some of the reasons I've found it very hard to quit this decade-long habit. </p><p>Yet, I've struggled with afternoon "crashes" where I feel gloomy, tired and even a bit depressed. I've noticed it more when I drink more coffee in the mornings. There's definitely a pattern, and so I've taken up the difficult task of quitting coffee recently. </p><p>It's been about a week now since I've had any coffee. And honestly, I'm loving it. Yes, the first few days were tough. But I took some Advil as needed, and it kept the headaches at bay. Now I'm drinking Dandy Blend or Teeccino (coffee alternatives) in the morning instead of coffee, and green tea in the afternoons. </p><p>The best benefit I've noticed from quitting coffee is that my evenings aren't filled with depression like before. I tend to feel positive in the evenings this past week, rather than depressed and gloomy. It's been a significant switch, and it's quite nice to rid myself of the typical evening gloom. </p><p>For these reasons... I'm hoping I can keep coffee out of my diet for good. </p>Peter Krusehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17365468863659785171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7922948876494498803.post-13765747544891503782023-01-03T08:23:00.002-08:002023-01-03T08:23:25.712-08:00Interesting Thoughts on Eucalyptus Essential Oil<p>As a forward, I am not a medical professional and am not giving medical advice. The more I read about nutritional yeast, the more I think it's a superfood. It's loaded with B vitamins (including B12 if it's fortified). According to Dr. Axe, nutritional yeast is beneficial in preserving immune function, fighting bacteria and viruses, boosting protein, promoting healthy skin, nails and hair and boosting B12 (fortified version only).<div> <div><u style="font-weight: bold;">2) Avocados</u> - Avocados are a great source of many B vitamins, including B1, B2, B3, B5 and B9 (<a href="http://www.freenutritionfacts.com/avocados/vitamins/">link</a>). Including guacamole or an avocado with your daily salad is an excellent idea.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><u style="font-weight: bold;">3) Flax Seeds</u> - Flax seeds are high in vitamin B17, which many people believe is cancer preventative (<a href="https://www.caasn.com/vitamin-b17-laetrile-amygdalin.html">Link</a>). In addition to B17, flax is also high in B9 (folate), B1 (thiamin), B3 (niacin) and vitamin B-6 (<a href="https://healthfully.com/how-much-epa-dha-are-in-chia-seeds-8067084.html">Link</a>). Flax seeds are truly one of nature's super foods.</div><div><br /></div><div><b style="text-decoration-line: underline;">4) Whole Grain Breads</b> "Rye, white, whole-wheat and French breads each provide between 0.2 and 0.3 milligram of thiamine per 2-ounce serving -- a significant portion of the 1.1 and 1.2 milligrams that the Institute of Medicine recommends daily for women and men, respectively" (<a href="https://healthfully.com/259017-vitamins-in-bread.html" target="_blank">Link</a>).</div><div><br /></div><div><u style="font-weight: bold;">5) Fortified Plant Milks</u> - Fortified plant milks include B12 and often include other B vitamins as well. Choosing an organic, sugar free option is a healthy way to meet your B vitamin needs on a daily basis.</div>Peter Krusehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17365468863659785171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7922948876494498803.post-42090103107851965482021-09-12T23:03:00.005-07:002021-09-21T20:21:41.107-07:00WellBeing Non Alcoholic Beer Review - "Victory Wheat"<p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>Tried this last weekend. Although it tasted watered down at first, by the end of the beer I was thoroughly enjoying it. It seemed lighter and thinner than any beers I've had before, and that's what threw me off at first. Ultimately though, the lightness of the beer and the orange crisp were actually very refreshing. Kind of reminded me of a citrus Kombucha with a beer finish. Combining flax with a good vegan protein powder might help to fill in these important gaps that remain if quitting eggs.</div><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px; text-align: left;"><div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div></div></blockquote><div style="text-align: center;"><b><i>Egg Yolks Comparison: free range vs. caged</i></b></div><div><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qD8X6tLDbR8?start=146" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></div><p></p><p>This made me wonder - Do all of the negative egg studies apply to organic, free range eggs as well? Similarly, are the many health benefits of eggs understated by studies that focus only on caged eggs? To treat caged and free range eggs the same is like saying: "Sugar in candy is unhealthy, therefore fruit is also bad for you." However, fruit is full of enzymes, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber, while candy has basically none of these things. </p><p style="text-align: center;"><i><b>Contradicting Info on Eggs</b></i> </p><p>Throughout my plant-based journey, which started around 2010 or so, eggs have been an area of confusion for me. I tend to feel better when I eat free range eggs - with significantly more strength and energy - yet I also read the studies of how caged eggs are sometimes correlated with cancer, heart disease and high blood pressure as well. Eggs are truly a powerhouse of nutrients, yet many warn of their danger. It is a confusing whirlwind of conflicting information to say the least. </p><p>Regarding the nutritionists, I admire people on both sides of this issue. On the no-egg side you have brilliant people like Dr. Dean Ornish, the late Jay Kordich, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Brooke Goldner, Dr. Michael Greger, etc. I definitely do value their research, though there are brilliant people who eat eggs as well: Dr. Josh Axe, Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Mercola, Dr. Oz, Dr. Eric Bakker (Candida Crusher author), Dr. Eric Berg, etc. Dr. Axe even helped his mother beat cancer on a diet that included free range eggs.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><b><i>Glyphosate is toxifying plants.</i></b></p><p>While I do believe in a plant based, or at least a mostly plant based diet, I also realize that plants are not quite as clean as they used to be. Toxic poisons like glyphosate are used on a regular basis as herbicides and pesticides. If you buy organic plants, you can usually avoid this things, but glyphosate is also finding its way into organic foods. I was horrified to discover at one point that my favorite vegan organic protein powder had a high amount of glyphosate, when tested. This doesn't mean that plant foods are bad, but it does mean that contamination of plant foods is growing more and more prevalent, which might explain why some people feel better after eating certain animal foods. </p><p style="text-align: center;"><i><b>Historical Precedence of Eggs</b></i></p><p>While living in China from 2013 through 2017, I became friends with some traditional Buddhist vegetarians. Their diet was basically vegan except for about 2 eggs every day. And they seemed healthy, happy and overall spiritually grounded. I remember talking to one Buddhist Monk who had almost a glow about him, and a smile that was warm and authentic. He told me - in Chinese - that he followed a vegan diet except for the eggs. These Buddhist vegetarians that I met do not take any supplements and seemed quite healthy.</p><p>Unlike the modern vegan diet which only began after B12 supplements were discovered in 1948, this Buddhist vegetarian diet is not new for humans. In fact, it is thousands of years old, and is rooted in eastern traditions - although Hindus generally supplement eggs with dairy. Still though, modern vegans tend to shun vegetarians as being cruel and inhumane, even though veganism is not found in humans until about the 1950's. </p><p style="text-align: center;"><b><i>Bonobos Diet</i></b></p><p>A mostly plant based diet is what bonobos eat, and they're our closest relatives in the animal kingdom (<a href="https://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/permanent/human-origins/understanding-our-past/dna-comparing-humans-and-chimps#:~:text=The%20chimpanzee%20and%20bonobo%20are%20humans'%20closest%20living%20relatives.&text=These%20three%20species%20look%20alike,both%20in%20body%20and%20behavior.">Link</a>). However, bonobos will also eat an egg (or an insect) over a supplement, and the same can be said about our human ancestors. Supplements are actually a relatively new discovery in human history. In fact, vitamin B12 was only discovered in 1948. The same can not be said about free range eggs. Does this make a free range egg superior or inferior to pills? I honestly don't know, but I do feel it's worth exploring. </p><p style="text-align: center;"><b><i>Conclusions</i></b></p><p>In conclusion, my confusion is still there, and I'm still predominately plant-based. I would like to share one perspective by Dr. Brian Clement. He eats an oil-rich and avocado rich diet, and perhaps these foods are a sufficient supplement for eggs? </p><p><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xX8vPPbGwgM" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></p><p>As a rebuttal video, here's an interesting <a href="https://m.facebook.com/drmarkhyman/videos/405313183612920/">perspective</a> by Dr. Mark Hyman. Confused yet? If so, you're not alone! But one thing I can say for sure, if you're going to eat eggs, stick to free range, pastured eggs over the caged variety. And stick to a mostly plant based diet. Things aren't always black and white, and I believe there are extremely healthy and smart people on both sides of the great egg debate. </p></div></div></div></div></div>Peter Krusehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17365468863659785171noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7922948876494498803.post-47149592197202681132021-06-01T19:34:00.006-07:002021-06-01T19:34:47.129-07:00Black Seed Oil Benefits (black cumin seed oil)<p>I recently started taking black seed oil after reading how it helped people defeat parasites. As someone who acquired parasites while living in China, I felt this might be a good supplement to add to my regimen. I feel quite good after taking a teaspoon of black seed oil in the morning and again at night. I definitely feel more energetic, positive and calm overall after taking them. Below are some of the amazing benefits of black seed oil.</p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>"Taking oral black seed oil may help to reduce inflammatory rheumatoid arthritis symptoms" (<a href="https://www.healthline.com/health/food-nutrition/black-seed-oil-benefits#health-benefits" target="_blank">Link</a>).</li><li>"Recent studies have shown that the thymoquinone in black seed oil can influence programmed cell death, or apoptosis, in several types of cancer cell. This herb has helped me expel many parasites from my body. </b><b>For my opinions on beating parasites naturally, <a href="https://321natural.blogspot.com/2019/05/treating-roundworms-and-rat-lungworm.html" target="_blank">CLICK HERE</a>. </b><br /><ul style="text-align: left;"><li><b>What is the Alkaline Diet?</b> "Most fruits and vegetables, soybeans and tofu, and some nuts, seeds, and legumes are alkaline-promoting foods, so they're fair game. Dairy, eggs, meat, most grains, and processed foods, like canned and packaged snacks and convenience foods, fall on the acid side and are not allowed. Most books that tout the alkaline diet say you shouldn't have alcohol or caffeine, either" (<a href="https://www.webmd.com/diet/a-z/alkaline-diets#:~:text=Most%20fruits%20and%20vegetables%2C%20soybeans,side%20and%20are%20not%20allowed.">Link</a>)</li><li>"The good news is that by following the pH diet you can restore the balance to your body. Since parasites can’t live in an environment that is between 7.2 and 7.4 pH, alkalizing your diet will help remove them from your system. When you follow this diet you will be able to reverse the acidification process and make your body an inhospitable place for parasites" (<a href="https://www.superseventies.com/infobank/phmiraclediet/">Link</a>).</li><li>"The most effective way to rid yourself of parasites and an overgrowth is by creating an internal environment that is not a friendly host for them. The more alkaline you can be, the less you are a host. Thus why people are successful with the Alkalizing Cleanse approach. The 80/10/10 diet, if followed raw or almost entirely raw, will help you achieve that. Cooked foods, animal foods, and processed foods are actually digested as acidic, which is a perfect host for the parasites you are trying to get rid of. Craig says that a fully raw, vegan diet helped him overcome CIPD.</div><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/POcKQRsTF4c?start=721" width="560"></iframe><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>4) Anthony Quan </b>has had ALS for 11 years now. "After being diagnosed with ALS, I soon found myself in a state of total paralysis, or as I called it, 'you’re totally f****, bro.' But I credit my diet of veganism and hardcore juicing with helping me to regain some control of my body" (<a href="https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/53j4a5/i-credit-veganism-with-helping-me-recover-from-being-paralyzed-by-als" target="_blank">Link</a>).<br /><br />Though Anthony is still mostly paralyzed, he's regained some movement in his limbs, which is nothing short of miraculous. Anthony also stays active painting with his eyes, using a technology that allows him to be creative even while in his bed.<br /><br /><b>5) Dr. Craig</b> has had ALS since 1995. He says, "Most importantly, my breathing is way better than it was three years ago...I am not meaning to imply that a 100% raw foods diet is the best choice for everyone’s optimal wellness, although I have read enough that has me believing that those who would like to achieve the optimal wellness possible for them to consume a high alkaline diet that is at least 60-80% raw...I use avocado, an abundance of healthy oils and raw almonds as some of my nutrient dense strategies for maintaining weight." (<a href="http://healingwithdrcraig.com/harming-ourselves/sugar/dr-craig-and-mrs-a/" target="_blank">Link</a>).<br /><br />"Daily [Dr. Craig] drinks lots of filtered alkaline water, juices, and eats a very clean mostly a raw food diet, with plenty of healthy fats and protein" (<a href="https://healingals.org/tag/dr-craig-oster/" target="_blank">Link</a>).<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b><u><span style="font-size: large;">Things That Seem To Help</span></u></b></div><div><br /></div><div><b>1) </b><b>Treat Hidden Infections and Parasites</b> - Veterinarians have known for hundreds of years that parasites and worms can cause debilitating neuropathy and eventual paralysis in animals (<a href="https://www.merckvetmanual.com/dog-owners/brain,-spinal-cord,-and-nerve-disorders-of-dogs/central-nervous-system-disorders-caused-by-parasites-in-dogs">Link</a>). Doctors are finally discovering that this is also true for humans: <div><br /></div><div>"Researchers at the University of California-Riverside have shown, for the first time, that infection from the common parasite Toxoplasma gondii disrupts neurotransmitter glutamate function in the brain, potentially leading to neuronal death and neurodegenerative diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)" (<a href="https://alsnewstoday.com/2016/06/13/toxoplasma-infection-neurodegenerative-disease/#:~:text=Researchers%20at%20the%20University%20of,lateral%20sclerosis%20(ALS)%2C%20in" target="_blank">Link</a>). </div><div><br /></div><div><i style="font-size: large;">For fighting parasite infections naturally, check out my post <a href="https://321natural.blogspot.com/2020/04/treating-parasites-naturally.html">HERE</a>!</i></div></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>2) Take L- Serine - </b>"Researchers have shown that, when treated with L-serine, a non-human primate model of ALS had fewer pathologies associated with the disease" (<a href="https://www.drugtargetreview.com/news/56466/l-serine-could-be-used-to-treat-als-after-promising-results-in-primate-study/" target="_blank">Link</a>).</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>3) Focus on a whole foods, plant-based diet.</b><br />

<br /><div><b>4) </b><span><b>Lion's Mane</b> - "</span>Some research suggests that extracts of lion’s mane mushrooms may encourage nerve cells to grow and repair more quickly. One study showed that rats with nerve damage receiving a daily extract of lion’s mane mushrooms had quicker nerve regeneration than control animals" (<a href="https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/323400#risks-and-side-effects" target="_blank">Link</a>).</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>5) Probiotics - "</b>The study published in the journal Clinical Therapeutics found profound evidence suggesting that gut microbiota targeted with natural bacteria products successfully alleviated ALS progression in animal models" (<a href="https://alstreatment.com/probiotics-new-naturally-occurring-inhibitor-als-progression/" target="_blank">Link</a>).</div><div><br /></div><div><b>6) ALA (alpha lipoic acid) - "</b>Alpha-lipoic acid is an antioxidant and also a cofactor for mitochondrial enzymes. In a study with G93A/SOD-1 mice, ALA...showed a significant delay in onset of impaired motor performance, increased survival, and attenuated weight loss in treated mice compared to controls" (<a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2631353/" target="_blank">Link</a>).<br />
<br /><b>7) Beta Carotene -</b> "The new study showed that people whose diets were higher in beta-carotene and lutein had a lower risk of developing ALS. Lutein is a type of oxygen-rich carotenoid called a xanthophyll, which is found in deep green vegetables like kale and broccoli" (<a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/als-risk-reduced-by-eating-brightly-colored-vegetables-study-suggests/" target="_blank">Link</a>). Since raw kale can lead to iodine absorption issues, I recommend adding some raw carrots to your morning smoothie for beta carotene. My favorite smoothie recipe is by the amazing medical doctor Brooke Goldner <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=u65G1E8uHVU&feature=emb_title" target="_blank">HERE</a>.</div><div><br /></div><div><div>Another study showed that "fruit consumption was negatively associated with the risk of ALS, but intake of beef, fish, and fast food were positively associated with the risk of ALS. In addition, the risk of ALS was negatively associated with intake of plant calcium and beta-carotene, while positively associated with intake of total calcium and animal calcium. Intake of vegetables and other antioxidant nutrients had no effect on the risk of ALS in the present study" (<a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23710627/">Link</a>).</div>
<b><br /></b><b>8) NAC - "</b>Recently, Louwerse reported on a double-blind trial of NAC in 111 patients with ALS. Patients with limb onset but not bulbar onset of ALS had a 50% decrease in the one year mortality rate with NAC treatment" (Link).<br /><b><br /></b><b>10) Tudca -</b> "Research has shown that TUDCA can decrease nerve cell death, a hallmark of ALS, through its ability to act as an antioxidant that prevents toxic reactive oxygen species from accumulating inside cells. The molecule also has the ability to control immune function" (<a href="https://alsnewstoday.com/tudca-tauroursodeoxycholic-acid/#:~:text=Research%20has%20shown%20that%20TUDCA,ability%20to%20control%20immune%20function." target="_blank">Link</a>).</div><div><br /></div><div><div><b>11) Take wheatgrass. </b></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div>One animal study concludes, "Wheatgrass treatment ameliorated the oxidative damage of sciatic nerves by increasing the antioxidant enzymes SOD, Catalase, GSH levels and by decreasing the formation of TBARS in diabetic rat sciatic nerves" (Link).</div><div><br /></div><div>Here are some personal testimonies about wheatgrass: </div><div><br /></div><div>"I have now completed two months of oral wheatgrass extract to see if the wheatgrass would be beneficial to my Multiple Sclerosis... I am astounded by how much energy I now have. I started to notice the change after about 3.5 weeks of taking wheatgrass, and my energy levels continue to increase. I am truly amazed." </div><div><br /></div><div>"I am SO happy with the improvement in sensation, and my hair and nails look GREAT! My skin is still really sore but I have much hope that will change soon" (<a href="https://www.drwheatgrass.com.au/testimonial/multiple-sclerosis/">Link</a>).<b> </b></div></div></div></div>Peter Krusehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17365468863659785171noreply@blogger.com0
