Beating Candida and Parasites on an Alkaline Diet

The best luck I've had fighting parasites, personally, is with an herb called mimosa pudica seed. This herb has helped me expel many parasites from my body. For my opinions on beating parasites naturally, CLICK HERE
  • What is the Alkaline Diet? "Most fruits and vegetables, soybeans and tofu, and some nuts, seeds, and legumes are alkaline-promoting foods, so they're fair game. Dairy, eggs, meat, most grains, and processed foods, like canned and packaged snacks and convenience foods, fall on the acid side and are not allowed. Most books that tout the alkaline diet say you shouldn't have alcohol or caffeine, either" (Link)
  • "The good news is that by following the pH diet you can restore the balance to your body. Since parasites can’t live in an environment that is between 7.2 and 7.4 pH, alkalizing your diet will help remove them from your system. When you follow this diet you will be able to reverse the acidification process and make your body an inhospitable place for parasites" (Link).
  • "The most effective way to rid yourself of parasites and an overgrowth is by creating an internal environment that is not a friendly host for them. The more alkaline you can be, the less you are a host. Thus why people are successful with the Alkalizing Cleanse approach. The 80/10/10 diet, if followed raw or almost entirely raw, will help you achieve that. Cooked foods, animal foods, and processed foods are actually digested as acidic, which is a perfect host for the parasites you are trying to get rid of. Removing those foods will kill them slowly" (Link).

Treating Parasites Naturally

As a disclaimer, talk to your doctor for medical advice. However, just one tiny piece of information you can gather might mean a world of difference, and that information may be just around the corner!

1) Consider taking Mimosa Pudica Seed
  • Mimosa Pudica Seed has been used by people in the tropics for thousands of years to fight off worm infections. Check out all of the amazing anti-parasite benefits here! Mimosa pudica seed is generally taken twice a day with water on an empty stomach.
  • The doctors at Microbe Formulas suggest occasionally increasing mimosa pudica seeds during intermittent fasts. "The gist of the challenge is to take 2 capsules of the Mimosa Pudica Seed supplement every hour with plenty of water while avoiding eating. The challenge pairs well with intermittent fasting. That can be as simple as restricting the time period that you eat to a 6 to 8-hour window" (Link).
2) Add pumpkin seeds or papaya seeds to your green smoothie:
  • "Pumpkin seed treatment resulted in a significant reduction in the initial number of faecal worm eggs in sheep and showed a potential for parasite control (Link).
  • Papayas, especially their seeds, fight parasites and worms. "In one study, researchers found that a mixture of honey and papaya seeds cleared stools of parasites in 23 out of 30 subjects" (Link).
Click HERE for an anti parasite smoothie recipe!
  • Brenda, the "Real Food Rebel," beat a terrifying infection of parasites and lyme disease that left her totally debilitated and even suicidal. In her own words, "When I was very sick and going through heavy lyme and parasite cleansing I often did a green smoothie fast for a day or two. I would eat as much smoothie as I wanted and it really helped to clear the body of die-off toxins. Go ahead and give it a try!" Click HERE for her recipe.

  • Dr. Linda Lancaster uses raw milk as "bait" to draw out parasites, mixing in herbs to eliminate them. "Raw milk is sweet and happens to be parasites favorite food. They are drawn out from hiding by the milk and then killed through a special formulation of ingested herbs" (Link).
3) Consider these other powerful anti-parasite herbs

Neem
  • In one study performed on cattle, "The present study demonstrated the anthelminthic potential of neem leaves in control of GI parasites especially strongyle infection. This has also been previously supported by other studies" (Link).
  • "One of the advantages of neem is that it not only kills the parasites, but also removes the toxins they leave behind as they are dying. Neem also supports proper liver function, so it helps the liver recover from being overworked from the parasite infection" (Link).
Vidanga
  • "Of these Ayurvedic herbal treatments, Vidanga may quite possibly be the most widely used and powerful herb for killing parasites and healing infections of all kinds (bacterial, fungal, etc)" (Link).
  • "Vidanga is a potent herb for killing roundworm...Not only is vidanga effective against parasites, it’s also effective against fungus like Candida albicans. In the Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Studies in 2011, researchers found that vidanga effectively treated eight different fungal species, including candida" (Link).
Black walnut hull, wormwood and clove
  • These 3 herbs have been consistently identified as 3 of most powerful herbs for parasites. Tinctures are one effective way to take these powerful herbs. Feel free to check out the NOW brand tincture here (no affiliation). Remember when taking wormwood and other powerful herbs, it's important to take a break from using these herbs for a full week at least once a month.
4) Eat raw garlic daily, if you can.

"Garlic is able to slow and kill over 60 types of fungus and 20 types of bacteria, as well as some of the most potent viruses. Garlic has a history of killing parasites and controlling secondary fungal infections. It also detoxifies while gently stimulating elimination, and has antioxidant properties to protect against oxidation caused by parasite toxins" (Link). To retain all of the powerful effects of garlic, it's important to eat it raw. One way to eat raw garlic is by chopping up a clove into small pieces and swallowing it with a cup of water. Other people pinch their nose and chew raw garlic cloves.

5) Stop feeding them. (for more on an anti-parasite diet, click here)

Eat This:

Not This:
  • "The most effective way to rid yourself of parasites and an overgrowth is by creating an internal environment that is not a friendly host for them. The more alkaline you can be, the less you are a host. Thus why people are successful with the Alkalizing Cleanse approach. The 80/10/10 diet, if followed raw or almost entirely raw, will help you achieve that. Cooked foods, animal foods, and processed foods are actually digested as acidic, which is a perfect host for the parasites you are trying to get rid of. Removing those foods will kill them slowly" (Link).
  • The doctors at Microbe Formulas have had great success at treating parasites in people. They recommend a whole foods, protein rich diet. "On average, an adult needs at least 50 grams of protein a day... Protein is abundant in meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy products. Plant-based foods — such as beanspeasquinoanuts, and seeds — also supply some protein... If you choose a vegan diet, make sure to include a variety of different plant protein sources." (Link) Also, "Alcohol is an especially poor 'investment' if you struggle with digestive issues." (Link).
    • Dr. Eric Bakker, author of the popular "Candida Crusher" book, has also had success treating parasites in his patients. He recommends a high protein, high vegetable diet as well. In this video, Dr. Bakker says that vegans and vegetarians can also succeed on this plan, as long as they incorporate plenty of high protein foods such as quinoa, chickpeas, nuts, seeds, lentils, beans, tofu, tempeh, seitan, etc.
      • Dr. Axe says, "When you’re going to do a parasite cleanse, I even recommend that you limit your fruit intake or eat no fruit whatsoever. So rather than a berry smoothie, you just drink a coconut smoothie with coconut milk, chia seeds and protein powder; for lunch, do a big salad; and for dinner, prepare organic meat and double the vegetables, staying completely away from any form of grains or sugar, including fruit" (Link). While Dr. Axe does promote a very low or zero fruit diet for parasites, he makes exceptions for foods such as papayas, pineapple, carrots and lemons (Link).
    6) Consider an occasional Coffee Enema (under professional guidance)

Coffee enemas tend to deplete your body of electrolytes, so it's good to not overuse them (once a week maximum) and follow the direct guidance of a professional practitioner.

"At least three dozen clients have confided to us that
'coffee enemas saved my life'" - Dr. Lawrence Wilson

They say "desperate times call for desperate measures," and a parasite infestation can be considered desperate for most people. Dr. Lawrence Wilson is one of the leading authorities on parasite cleansing. Regarding coffee enemas, he says, "To say that this is the century of toxicity is no exaggeration.  The coffee enema is one of the best methods to cope with this problem.  A daily coffee enema (up to four per day):

    - Eliminates toxic metals and toxic chemicals such as medical drugs from the large and small intestines, liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas and other organs.  For this reason, it helps alleviate hundreds of health conditions.
    - Reduces many types of pain.
    - Eliminates hundreds of parasites.
    - Gets rid of depression and general nervous tension.
    - Increases mental clarity, improves energy levels, and improves digestion.
    - Enables clients to get through annoying healing and purification reactions more much easily.
    - Removes homeopathic remedies and herbal residues, which are important toxins.
    - Reduces cancer and yeast in the body.
    - Purifies the blood and lymph."

    7) Use a Sauna or infrared heating pad"Raising body temperature with an infrared sauna powerfully assists the body to kill cancer tumors, bacteria, fungi, yeast, parasites, viruses and other chronic infections." LINK

    8) Take care of your liver while cleansing!

    • If you have parasites or are cleansing, milk thistle is a great supplement to take to help protect your liver. There are many other liver and kidney supplements as well such as yarrow, beet root and dandelion.
    • In an attempt to get rid of parasites quickly, many people overload their bodies with tons of powerful anti-parasite supplements and medicines. This can wreak havoc on a person's liver. As one woman's story goes, "In intensive care post-transplant a doctor and I discussed my supplement and vitamin intake. I was told that the load of supplements, as well as the virus, had caused irreparable damage to my liver" (Link).
    9) Try this Herbal Tea This effective tea consists of 2 simple ingredients: thyme and pau d'Arco:

In this short video, Dr. Axe discusses the parasite and candida connection, and how pau d'Arco tea helps fight both!
    10) Daily Intermittent Fasting (for more on fasting, click here)
    • Dr. Jockers says: "A regular life cycle that inhibits parasitic development includes doing regular intermittent fasting for periods of 16-24 hours every day.  It is important to drink lots of clean water to push out feces and not allow it to become a breeding ground for parasitic organisms" (Link).
    • Brenda the "Real Food Rebel" beat lyme disease and a terrible parasite infection using natural means. In her blog, she promotes intermittent fasting. "My diet is primarily Wahl’s Paleo. I still eat about 9 cups of vegetables each day. After 5 years of morning smoothies, I have switched to a big salad with some type of animal protein for breakfast. I have almost quit fruit altogether and only eat it occasionally. I just feel stronger and have better blood sugar balance without much fruit. This is my 5th year with intermittent fasting. My first meal is at 11 am and dinner is usually around 5 pm. I still have my morning black coffee and drink water the rest of the day" (Link).
      • Dr. Pompa uses fasting in his parasite cleanse. "After addressing food, the last aspect of a parasite healing diet involved intermittent fasting as well as prolonged water fasting. Intermittent fasting is the period you go without eating, from your last meal of the day before bed until your first bite the following morning. Start out with a 12 hour fasting window, and increase it to 16-18 hours of daily fasting. With time, you should include 24 hour fasts (ideally once a week), and incorporate longer block fasts (5+ days) at least once a year." (LINK)
        • Dr. Robert Cassar doesn't eat meat, and he practices intermittent fasting daily. He recommends avoiding all alcohol and processed foods. Most of his diet is raw foods, with some cooked beans, avocados, olive oil, free range eggs and many other organic vegetarian foods. Having successfully treated parasites in his clients, he tends to recommend higher fat foods over higher sugar foods.

11Raw Carrots or Fresh Carrot Juice

Carrots or Carrot Juice - "Carrots and carrot juice are a known remedy for treating intestinal parasites." Link. Adding carrots to a morning smoothie, drinking fresh carrot juice or eating carrots and hummus are all good ways of getting your daily carrots in.

Check out this amazing story of how carrot juice helped one person pass parasites:

"I also had many of the symptoms referred to here, including discomfort and pain in the gallbladder area, toenail fungus, very dry and red eyes now and again, agitation, brain fog and depression. I took 2 rounds of Vermox for roundworm which worked pretty well. I felt a lot better afterwards. But it didn’t get them all. I still had pain around the gall bladder area, and a moving sensation there. I know worms can crawl up there.

I started having carrot juice every day –made from 3 or 4 carrots, 1 orange, 1 apple and sometimes some raw cabbage juiced as well, topped off with a bit of clove powder. The clove is supposed to kill parasite eggs. After one week on this (sorry if this is disgusting, it still is for me even to think about it) – I started to pass more large, long roundworms in my stool (as I did after the Vermox) as well as white rice like things.

I also passed two liver flukes, one surprisingly big, and some things that looked like pinworm (short white threads floating in the toilet bowl). I only had a little bit of itching now and again, so I was surprised at this. Eventually, after about 2 weeks on this juice–I passed something which I just couldn’t figure out–but I looked it up. It looked in size, shape and color like the head of a tapeworm." LINK

        12) An Ounce of Prevention: Of course it's better to avoid getting parasites in the first place. While I am a proponent of raw foods, I do realize that cooking foods does kill off many parasites. For this reason, I think it's important to avoid raw foods while traveling. Also, washing all foods thoroughly is essential prior to eating. I believe it's also imperative to avoid all raw meats, including sushi.

        13) Build Your Stomach Acid! Building up stomach acid can help as a defense against parasites. Taking Apple Cider Vinegar before meals helps many people rebuild stomach acid, which tends to fade with age. Also, eating a high protein diet and avoiding drinking lots of water during meals also helps build stomach acid.

        14) Get Tested using stool testing. www.parasitetesting.com is a common, trusted parasite testing lab (no affiliation). While testing can be very helpful, remember that testing often involves false negatives, especially for parasites. However, they can also be very valuable at helping you determine what you're up against.

        15) More Great Resources:

        Anti Parasite Diet

Diet is an often overlooked part of a parasite cleanse. Many people want to simply take the herbs and feel better, without cutting out the junk foods. If only it were this easy. But it's a consistently healthy diet that keeps us healthy, mores than any pill or supplement.

As a disclaimer, talk to your doctor for medical advice. However, just one tiny piece of information you can gather might mean a world of difference, and that information may be just around the corner!

        1) Change Your Overall Diet

        • Parasites usually feed on sugars, especially the processed kind. Cutting out processed sugars, breads, pastas, pork, raw fish, fried foods, and processed foods in general is essential for any success at becoming healthy again. Since parasites can feed on healthier sugars, it's also important to limit fruit during a parasite cleanse.
        • Alcohol also tends to contain a lot of sugar as well as overload the liver, especially for those with a history of digestive issues or parasite problems. The doctors from Microbe Formulas say, "Alcohol is an especially poor 'investment' if you struggle with digestive issues. This is because alcohol can contribute to increased intestinal permeability or leaky gut. When you pair an alcohol habit with drugs of any kind, it’s a double whammy to your health" (Link).
        • Eating a diet that consists of about 80% cooked vegetables is what Dr. Lawrence Wilson recommends. "A diet that is very high in cooked vegetables (not salads) is the basis for every nutritional balancing program that we set up.  It is critical for success with nutritional balancing" (Link). While Dr. Wilson recommends meat as part of his program, he also says, "Many clients who continue to be vegetarians improve their health greatly with a development program.  It works almost as well with them as with anyone else. The diet won’t be quite as varied [compared to meat eaters]. This will slow progress, a little. However, they can do very well" (Link).
        • The doctors at Microbe Formulas have had great success at treating parasites in people. They recommend a whole foods, protein rich diet. "On average, an adult needs at least 50 grams of protein a day... Protein is abundant in meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy products. Plant-based foods — such as beans, peas, quinoa, nuts, and seeds — also supply some protein... If you choose a vegan diet, make sure to include a variety of different plant protein sources." (Link
        • Regarding zinc and magnesium, the doctors at Microbe Formulas say, "Zinc can also be absorbed from oatmeal, tofu, legumes, and nuts...Magnesium can be found in foods like almonds, spinach, black beans, tofu, and [sugar free] dark chocolate" (Link).
        • Incorporate foods like vegetable stir fries, beans, tofu, salads with apple cider vinegar and olive oil, avocados, free range eggs, coconut yogurt, carrots, oatmeal, quinoa, nuts, seeds, green smoothies with lots of greens and 1-2 servings of fruit (usually pineapple, papaya and / or berries).
        • For some everyday foods that kill parasites, check out "the Raw Food Rebel's" informative post HERE. She promotes a green smoothie for breakfast with pastured eggs on the side, a salad for lunch and a cooked paleo dinner, usually with some sort of free range animal protein.
        2) Fasting (Intermittent or Prolonged)
        • Markus Rothkranz says that intermittent fasting "helps everything from digestive issues to energy, depression and mental clarity. This is one of the keys to the fountain of youth! This is what Cara and I do... Put simply, you eat for 8 hours a day and eat absolutely nothing for 16. A typical time to eat is 12 noon to 8 pm or 11 am to 7 pm" (Link).
        • Paul Nison says, "One thing I learned a long time ago at the Hippocrates Health Institute from Brian Clement was,  it's very beneficial to give the body as much rest as possible when it comes to our diet. We have to get used to missing a meal. If you're used to eating three times a day, work up to doing a fast. Maybe cut down to twice a day. And then a week later cut down to once a day. And then after you get used to that maybe you can cut down to just doing a liquid [fast]" (LINK).
          • Dr. Mercola says that intermittent fasting "helps suppress inflammation and fight free radical damage" (Link).
          • John Rose says, "Just by not eating breakfast, you're going to see tremendous benefits...How can we help people understand the benefits of just not eating breakfast so they can realize that what they're eating has so much effect on them?" In the same video, he says, "We are so far removed from the killing of the animal that we don't realize the cruel thing we do when we eat an animal" (LINK).

          • Some recent studies provide evidence that intermittent fasting can delay the onset of tumors in animals. While more research is needed for humans, it has been proven that intermittent fasting helps humans reduce inflammation and achieve optimal insulin levels. Both of these factors are linked with cancer in humans.
